Dear Readers

VIEW OF DERWENTWATER, NEAR KESWICK. PHOTO TAKEN IN MAY 2024
One of the most serious complaints that can be levelled at Regional TV and Regional Documentary Programming for North West England, specifically for those who live north of the M62 Corridor is that the news-coverage and reporting is that it is not sympathetic to, nor understands the concerns and issues faced by the local population living in the provinces, i.e., the more rural and/ or tight-knit communities outside the major cities.
I have in previous posts covered at length the lack of geographical-appropriate coverage, the fact that viewers in northern Lancashire or South Cumbria don’t find out quite serious news (likely to be of interest to them) because BBC1 North-West Tonight, and in particular ITV Granada Reports won’t cover anything north of their transmission boundaries. But the lack of coverage of issues and matters of real concern to viewers in northern North-West England, how viewers can address those concerns – where they should move, how they should travel and who they might vote for to have politicians address their concerns – that is very much lacking.
There was a time both the BBC and ITV Regional News and documentaries covered- in depth- the concerns, matters and issues of importance to local communities. The following all-important topics seldom get covered in real depth on either BBC North-West Tonight or ITV Granada Reports, certainly there are few (if any) documentaries about them:
- Antisocial behaviour and the fear elderly and small adults have of meeting gangs of rowdy teenagers on the street in their community
- Immigration from countries hostile to the UK making towns and cities nearby more dangerous
- Self-Protection, and practical advice for keeping oneself and one’s family safe when out and about, etc
- The impact of the new European Travel and Information Authorisation System (ETIAS)- when this is launched later in 2026- and how this will constrain anyone with a criminal record wanting to travel to Europe on holiday.
- Domestic violence/ abuse not only covering that affecting women, but how this affects children and (often small) men too- and providing practical, safe remedies for getting out of abusive situations
- How the Left-Wing Media and Labour could get sensational “Sleaze Scoops” on Reform UK and the Tories just before the next Election, then encouraging Tactical Voting against these parties that the Public are turned against- leading to Labour clinging onto power in 2029 to continue to pursue a dangerous soft-liberal on crime, but anti free-speech agenda.
- Moral decline and the increase in lawlessness across North-West England and the Isle of Man- because of a lack of fear of a God who could send folk to hell and no real deterrent against crimes.
All of these are topics that should be explored and covered in-depth in news-reports or more in-depth documentaries. However, some of the topics- i.e., around immigration, or the suggestion that a revival in Christianity would benefit communities across the region are liable to be considered too controversial to touch by the BBC, and indeed by ITV.Plc. So for fear of upsetting some women, atheists, some immigrants neither of the mainstream broadcasters dare utter a word about topics that millions of folk living in North West England (and beyond) care about and are vexed about: Understandably, neither the BBC nor ITV want to be sued but they stand to produce less- watched programming because they obsess about being right-on politically-correct and woke (and will lose a lot of money and viewers that way).
What is Regional TV News and documentary programming for if it is not to provide news and discussion of the topics (as well as the locations) that vex their viewers and hopefully provide some sympathetic coverage of- and some practical solutions to- viewers pressing concerns? At a superficial level Regional TV broadcasts should provide news- of job opportunities, crime risks and potentially hazardous weather for people in the communities they live in and places they are liable to travel to (and mainstream Regional TV often does not even do that for viewers in South Cumbria, North Lancashire or on the Isle of Man): This should happen so that folk are informed.
But there are very serious developments pertaining to North West England that threaten a future of violent lawlessness, loss of free-speech, business-destroying taxation and regulation, large parts of local towns being displaced by immigrants from cultures wholly different to the local population, etc: And this particularly affects the communities north of the M62 Corridor that are often overlooked. And BBC North-West Tonight along with ITV Granada Reports don’t want to go there. Not even ITV Border Lookaround, broadcast to central and northern Cumbria and which is clearly dedicated to the rural communities in Cumbria and southernmost Scotland is keen to broach some of these topics- even though it should. The wave of lawlessness and increasing immigration is spreading north.
A 2032 Dystopia for the English North-West
There are deep-rooted threats growing within (and south of) North-West England that fundamentally threaten many folk- men, women and children that are not covered by Regional TV for fear of causing offence. There is no guarantee that Labour will be kicked out of office by a Tory-Reform UK insurgency if Labour and the Left-Wing Media find enough (convincing) muck to throw at and bring Reform UK and the Tories down just before the next General Election, and the Police arrest Reform UK/ Tory Candidates and/ or politicians on trumped-up charges so that these parties that could save Britain, including the English North West, are tarnished to the point that Left-Wing Tactical Voting could do the rest: And Labour stay in power with help from the Liberal Democrats, Green Party and the Scottish National Party (SNP).
Ten years ago, I would have assumed that Britain does very much have a Democracy, that we have Free Speech and that no Government would ever try and damage the Opposition by getting the Police to do things that would damage the Opposition- but you cannot rule out that possibility today. And that brings us to what sort of places that Lancaster, Morecambe, Garstang, Blackpool and Kendal will be like by 2032: Will it be safe to walk down the street in the evening, go on a bus, post an article like this one hinting that folk might have reasons to be concerned about mass-immigration into their communities?
These are now legitimate questions and concerns about the future many folk have: If there is the possibility of the violent unpleasantness spreading from those parts of the cities in the south of the region where this already exists – into Lancashire and Cumbria millions of folk should receive the courtesy of being informed by their Regional broadcast media about this. There should be a discussion as to what folk might want to do about it. Do folk stay and fight for their communities to try and preserve them, including with force if it comes to it (because the Police refuse to arrest violent yobs)- but risk arrest from the Police themselves? Or is it time to sell up, and move to other lands that are nice with strong communities, real democracy, Christian values, beautiful scenery and little crime- to the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, maybe Ireland, perhaps even Norway (Norwegian is not a hard language to learn, but moving there is tougher after Brexit). Indeed, how will ETIAS impact on anyone wanting to travel to Europe to find work and move there if they have a criminal record (which will include battered wives who attack their abusive husbands and fathers who have attacked yobs threatening them and their families- and increased likelihood when the Police won’t investigate and the judges won’t jail violent teenage yobs).
What does one do if large parts of North-West England become unpleasant to live in, one cannot leave the country because you are on probation for trying to protect yourself (or are too poor to do so)- and the Police won’t protect you? Perhaps there are remedies for this sort of situation- effective self-defence moves and methods of deterring attackers (learned through Martial Arts classes) that won’t land one in prison. If this is the future for Lancashire, now is the time for Regional TV broadcasters need to start telling viewers about these spreading problems- and offering solutions for legally fighting back to protect communities (or legal and cost-effective measures for getting out now).
Left-Wing Bias
In the shorter-term, voters who live in North-West England need to hear a dispassionate and honest appraisal of what each of the political parties offer in the run-up to the next Election. Along with this Regional (and indeed National) broadcasters need to spell out why the current Labour Government is dangerous- not by making a Party-political point that liberal and/ or socialist- leaning policies are inherently bad (political neutrality is essential in news-broadcasting). But this Labour Government is bad because it is discriminating against (and almost carelessly putting at risk) British citizens because unvetted illegal immigrants are allowed into Britain and are not deported, because clearly unreformed and dangerous men and women are let out of jail (and are often not jailed in the first place). The first, and fundamental duty of any Government, whether it is socialist, free-marketeers, conservative or liberal- is the protection and security of those they govern- in other words keeping folk safe from harm. Any Government that does not prioritise the defence and protection of those over whom it governs is a bad Government, even treacherous towards its subjects. Fundamentally, broadcasters in North-West England- and across the whole of the UK need to call out fundamentally bad Government, and speak truth to power and advise viewers accordingly.
Unfortunately, there is a deep-rooted bias institutionalised within the BBC, and to some extent ITV.Plc, in favour of the Left, in favour of liberalism- and multiculturalism. There is a deep-rooted aversion to reporting on mass-immigration and soft- liberal judges who won’t lock up serial violent offenders. This can be considered not only as wrong, but down-right irresponsible. As mentioned, the first duty of any Government is the protection of it’s citizens from internal and external threats- from hostile foreign powers like Iran, through terrorist organisations down to the three large 20-year old men making the lives of residents in a village a misery: Neither BBC North West Tonight, nor ITV Granada Reports, not even ITV Border’s Lookaround (which does not have the excuse of broadcasting to an ethnic metropolitan constituency) has reporters and news-readers willing to spell out that all the parts of North-West England under their remit are threatened with increased violence and lawlessness blighting their futures directly because of the policies and decisions of the Government.
This is not about Right vs. Left, but about Right vs. Wrong- and Regional News broadcasters (and indeed National broadcasters too) must not be afraid to call this out. Aside from political preferences, the English North-West (along with the rest of the UK) now has a Government which is putting this country at risk for ideological reasons, and which (in the aftermath of the riots following the Southport murders in July 2024) has developed a clear, unpleasant authoritarian streak that threatens our very Democracy. It’s time this was made clear to voters, including those in Manchester and Merseyside who have long had Labour sympathies- so that they can make informed choices about who they really want representing their communities and running the country: There’s nothing wrong with voting for a Party that believes in higher taxes to fund the NHS if it clearly prioritises maintaining free-speech and protecting the country from all harm- but that’s not what the British Labour Party is today. Where are our broadcast media, who are supposed to be calling these rather serious developments out?
Labour in the 1970’s was Patriotic
Fifty years ago, Britain had a left-wing Labour Government which bankrupted the country: In 1976, the then Chancellor of the Exchequer Denis Healey had to call in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a loan to support Sterling and to ensure the NHS, Police, Armed Forces, Royal Navy, Schools could continue to be paid for. Inflation at the time was 25%. But as bad as that situation was economically the then Labour Government was patriotic and there was no question of the 1970’s Labour Government spending large sums of money on helping feed and house millions who came from lands hostile to the UK: Defence of the Realm was a much higher proportion of GDP than today, there was much concern over- and preparation in case of- Russia (the USSR, as it then was) deciding to attack the West.
In the 1970’s, under a Labour Government, there was still Corporal Punishment in schools, murderers really did get sentenced to life in prison, the Police made it their priority to arrest those who posed a threat to communities and the Courts locked up violent offenders. There were still borstals that dealt severely with the sort of teenage yobs that cause a misery in so many towns today (including- increasingly- in Lancashire and Cumbria). Communities were vibrant and Christian values underpinned them- they were welcoming, with folk looking out for others. In many rural areas folk didn’t even have to lock their doors (where in Britain would that be possible today).
Broadcasters need to be objective and report facts, this is not about Right vs Left but Right vs. Wrong: BBC North West Tonight would have no hesitation in reporting about any MP representing a Constituency in Greater Manchester or Lancashire who was found to have been passing military secrets to the Russians or to the Chinese- it would rightly be considered a scandal of great Public Interest to folk living in North West England because an MP- elected to represent constituents in a North West English Constituency- is reported to be doing something that undermines their safety and which betrays them by exposing them to foreign threat. Treason is a harsh word, but it is simply the act of betraying the country by colluding with foreign powers who wish the country harm- and until as recently as 1969 it was potentially punishable by execution.
However, today we have a Government at National level, supported by Labour MPs representing constituencies across North-West England, and which is actually working against the interests of British folk in favour of those coming into the country from lands hostile to Britain. When Muslims march in London screaming about Intifada, and Glastonbury singers chant “Death to the Jews”, the Police are not instructed to storm in and arrest the perpetrators…but when mothers post online “Get rid of the asylum hotels, burn them for all I care” after an immigrant kills three girls in a North West town the Police arrest that mother and a judge sends her down for over two years! That is not the actions of a merely Labour Government, but of an authoritarian regimé that is keen to stifle dissent it disapproves of. This government is also making mistakes by acting contrary to the interests of the voters who elected it, failing to protect them from harm as expected. There needs to be a structural shake-down of the BBC from top-to-bottom so that it is run by those who are willing to be honest and frank with their viewers about what really matters to them, even if this upsets ethnic minorities and politicians get mad with the BBC and ITV.Plc for shining a light on the intentions of Labour MPs, and exposing them to Public scrutiny: It’s what our National and Regional TV broadcasters should be doing every day!
Millions of folk who live in North-West England, specifically those living in the once-proud and tight-knit communities north of the M62 Corridor, should receive the courtesy of being informed- clearly- about just what sort of government the Labour Government of the 2020’s is (which is quite unlike the one from the 1970’s).
The only real reason that the likes of BBC North West Tonight and ITV Granada Reports do not report on such things, let alone produce any documentary on How This Labour Government Is Putting NW England at Risk, is for fear of being sued or prosecuted. It is unfortunate that journalists and broadcasters are so afraid of losing their generous salaries and perks that they are too scared to say anything that invokes displeasure from ethnic minorities or the Government. The BBC has already got into a lot of trouble with the Panorama documentary about President Trump (aired in October 2024), and the calls for the BBC to lose licence fee funding grow louder as the months pass. So, it is a time to take stock: Most viewers would be happy if the BBC would only broach the Elephant in the Room and say what needs to be said- that the UK Government is a threat to this country. Calls for the TV Licence to be axed would then fall away- and there would be money to pay for any lawsuits!
In Russia, some journalists face the threat of imprisonment or even death for covering government affairs or exposing high-level corruption. Despite everything, numerous journalists in Russia continue to stand their ground and they are not easily discouraged. It’s just a shame that neither the BBC nor ITV.Plc possess any such brave journalists and reporters. There is a need for broadcasters with such courage, who are willing and able to speak truth to power- even if that power becomes hostile and threatening. The British Public, especially those living in North-West England, despise cowards- particularly journalists who just toe the Party-line of the governing Party so that they get an easy ride.
Advice for Cumbrians and Lancastrians in the coming years
The legal, demographic and political changes that are currently happening, and which are set to continue for as long as this current Labour Government remain in power (which may well be beyond 2029, despite how unpopular they are now), and which will have serious implications for the future of all citizens living in Cumbria and Lancashire. The rising tide of violence, immigration from far-off hostile lands, shop-lifting, increasing violent yobbery, crumbling Public Services, moral decline and the loss of once-friendly and vibrant communities is not happening in a vacuum, and there is a need for broadcasters with some real cojones to report on this- which is serious and which really, really matters to communities across the North West of England. This is where viewers need to play their part.
The first step is to write to broadcasters demanding they cover some of these alarming trends and the real reasons why they are happening, to provide Regional TV programming and documentaries covering the serious political, legal and demographic changes behind some of the shifts in behaviour in our communities, specifically those North of the M62 Corridor. Viewers can write in, request that broadcasters have the courage of their convictions to speak truth to power- so that voters can make an informed choice. You could even point out that you are aware that the Labour Government might try political hatchet jobs on Reform UK and the Tories just before the next Election, and that “Sleaze Scoops” about Reform UK and Tory MPs will appear in The Guardian, The Daily Mirror, etc,.- because that is how far Labour will go to cling on to power. Voters should be encouraged not to place too much store on these hatchet jobs well in advance, because it is this Government that is the danger for almost deliberately favouring those who would harm or threaten UK citizens. It is for viewers to inform broadcasters that they need to report critically of the current Government- because its persistence in office after 2029 is a threat to the security and safety of millions of folk who live in North-West England and elsewhere in the UK.
Contact details for e-mailing North-West Regional TV broadcasters are as follows:
BBC North West Tonight: nwt@bbc.co.uk
ITV Granada Reports: granada.reports@itv.com
ITV Border Lookaround: btvnews@itv.com
If broadcasters fail to take heed and report on matters and issues that are of real concern to viewers, the next step is to write not to your MP, but to your nearest Conservative or Reform UK MP, or local Conservative/ Reform UK branch. Labour MPs cannot be trusted to prevail on the BBC or ITV.Plc to be critical of the Labour Government, nor to prevail upon Regional TV broadcasters to report on the rising tide of violence and yobbery spreading out of the cities and into more northerly parts of North-West England. Prevail upon your nearest Conservative/ Reform UK MP to put pressure on the BBC and ITV.Plc to be less timid, and more forthright in holding truth to power.
Both Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative Leader and Nigel Farage, the Reform UK Leader can be contacted directly as the leaders of their respective parties. If enough angry viewers in North-West England write to them about the Left-Wing biased BBC that won’t hold this Labour Government to account for leaving the UK citizenry at risk- they would certainly bring it up in the House of Commons and prevail upon the BBC both at National and Regional level to be dispassionate in exposing wrong-doing and policy at the highest levels of Government. If the BBC in the North-West can be prevailed upon to report on the negative impacts of lax immigration policies, of criminals being let out early and not given prison sentences that might encourage the Labour Government to tend more to their primary responsibility of protecting British citizens from harm. That will, in turn help to stem the continued drift towards violence in the provinces- but it is unlikely to reverse it.
There is a risk that, despite the Labour Government’s appalling failure at execution of the one essential function of Government- the protection of the citizenry over which they govern- a real risk that it will succeed (with the help of the Left-Wing Media) in sullying the Tories and Reform UK. Then enough voters would be persuaded by the Left that the Tories and Reform UK are “disgusting”, and sufficient voters stick with Labour so that a Labour Government- perhaps in Coalition with the Liberal Democrats returns to power in 2029. Dangerous criminals not sent to prison and continued immigration from hostile lands will mean more robberies, shoplifting, violent assault and yobbery spreading out from the cities into the rural parts of Lancashire and Cumbria.
If Labour do remain in power after 2029 continued borrowing and lose monetary policy will lead to an Inflation crisis and a fiscal crisis- leading to the need for tough fiscal measures to stop debt and Inflation getting out of control. Labour will spend money on benefits (their core voters), not on more Police and a stronger Armed Forces and they will try and raise the money by just taxing the businesses more- leading to more businesses shutting and another economic hit. If the Labour Government are forced- by the Markets- to make cuts it will be the Army and the Police that are starved of funds- leading to Police with even less resources and more crime being undeterred. Not even rural Scotland will be spared -as the Scottish Nationalists in Holyrood do not have a good record on crime- let alone will Cumbria and Lancashire be spared. People will be wanting answers!
Advice for Citizens in the increasingly violent North-West of England
When slashings become an almost nightly occurrence on the streets of Manchester and Liverpool, and such violence- and other forms of it- are spreading to Bolton, Preston, Blackpool and up to Lancaster and violence in Tyneside and in Glasgow has spread to Carlisle viewers will be very concerned about crime, the ability to protect themselves- and even whether it is worth bothering with the Police: A recent sobering statistic that I saw was that for every violent assault or theft reported to the Police in the UK just 1% of perpetrators end up behind bars (Source- Reports 99.5% Of Criminals Do Not End Up In Prison– You Tube, discussing Ministry of Justice findings, April 2025). They will not want BBC Regional News filled with ethnic tensions in Liverpool, Black Lives Matter- or whatever the right-on PC concern to have will be by 2029: They will want broadcasters sympathetic to their needs- perhaps by giving them practical advice.
Both BBC North-West Tonight and ITV Granada Reports will have a duty to be honest and sympathetic to viewers’ real concerns and cover the issues of rising violent crime in more depth, and if immigration has played a role in this to be honest with viewers. Lancastrians are tough, and North Lancastrians have a reputation of being tougher still- they are proud of their communities and families and would go nuts with rage if their homes and families were threatened. Yet they would be rendered impotent by Labour Government policies and Police guidelines that regard all under the age of eighteen as minors, not to be punished severely for wrong-doing and to be protected- strongly- from any “vigilante” father seeking to protect his family from them.
Yes, this is where we are headed folks: The Police do nothing when folk report attacks on them by violent yobs, but woe betide anyone who should take the law into their own hands and deal with the thugs and yobs who terrorise their communities themselves! That makes the Police worse than useless- and it means folk will be better protected if the Police were disbanded altogether and the tax-payer money saved used to give everyone a gun and to build a wall around everyone’s homes!
As such, viewers will want practical tips for keeping safe: Rather than going to Manchester or Liverpool, it might be better to go north- if possible- to do shopping, visit nice places. Whilst out and about in town, one should be encouraged to carry personal attack alarms and go with a friend whilst out sand about. In the immediate term taking self-defence classes helps by giving you a fighting chance (no pun intended) of hitting back at your assailant and getting away before one is seriously hurt.
But who is warning local communities about all this. If it is not the role of Regional TV which is there to provide news and a heads-up about all significant developments- and advice for communities to protect themselves what other organisation best fills the role. The Police have- it seems- abdicated any real concern for the well-being of (or provision of advice for) law-abiding indigenous Lancastrians and Cumbrians some time ago. Regional TV should be the one-stop shop for anyone to go to- to sit down and find out what is happening, and what developments are afoot, in their communities. Except that for anyone living north of Preston coverage is often irrelevant to local concerns, either topically or geographically.
Domestic Violence against Little Men and Children
Domestic violence is also a serious issue, not just for women in some relationships, but for the little autistic man living at home with his violent father and brother- who make out to anyone who would listen that he is the problem, not they! Or the little girl in a big family of men and big boys who batter her. Neighbours should report a family where they hear often-shouting big boys/ men with an often-crying little girl (or boy), especially if they hear bangs and screams- and she is dressed in tatty clothes and has few toys compared to her bigger siblings.
This stuff happens, even in 2026, and it falls to neighbours to notice these things and report them to Social Services (reports of a child being abused in a home carries a higher chance of follow-up, but even that is not guaranteed). A little autistic man suffering domestic abuse at the hands of his father and big burly brothers stands less chance of being investigated: However, a proactive discussion with friends and neighbours, and assisting the vulnerable man to the Police station (or assistance to get him into a Men’s Refuge if the Police won’t help) could save him from being injured- or worse- by his family. Just who is reporting on these issues? This is where local broadcasters should step in report that violence against vulnerable men and those with learning disabilities is real and widespread: Broadcasters should also offer remedies- up to assisting vulnerable adults to escape abusive families.
Folk living with the threat of violence, either from on the street or from within the home need to see- and hear- advice on how to get out of such situations permanently. Those in domestic violence situations can contact Refuge and try to get restraining orders against the perpetrators who are an immediate threat to them, though restraining orders don’t have a lot of power if- after the Police arrest violent offenders for breaking them- they don’t see the inside of a prison cell. In which case, escape (when the perpetrator is out at work, or at 3.am in a deep sleep) is probably better solution. That said, victims fleeing domestic violence need to be made aware that the most dangerous time is when fleeing, so they may have to be prepared to leave some things behind (pictures, pets and furniture are replaceable, people who are killed cannot be brought back).
All of these are issues that affect over a million folk living in North West England- if one includes not just women who are pushed about by their men, but little men being abused in families or in gay relationships, little boys and girls being shouted at, bellowed at and slapped about day after day by parents and/ or bigger siblings. Neighbours must be vigilant to signs of children being abused as little children cannot protect themselves.
Again, broadcasters skirt over the topic of domestic violence, and it is normally focussed just on wives or girlfriends suffering it. A lot of domestic violence (collectively) affects small men and vulnerable adults with learning disabilities, about which broadcasters report little. There is little real reporting on it, and little advice for what to do for vulnerable men and handicapped folk caught up in such situations. Men and women with learning disabilities are especially susceptible to domestic abuse at the hands of parents, siblings, or other family members- something which is, again, hardly ever mentioned by local broadcasters.
Can Communities Police Themselves If Need Be?
Living in Manchester or Liverpool is liable to become especially dangerous for a lot more people in the next few years, and those living north of the M62 Corridor will need to be advised to avoid those cities if at all possible: Work from home, get a job in Carlisle or Morecambe, or train and start your own business so as to avoid going into a big city. Broadcasters need to cover these things.
The dilemma facing communities in North-West England is whether to stick together to try and fight the blight on one’s community- or whether to sell up and move (or just pack up and move, then process the sale of one’s old home after moving). For those in a tight-knit community with a network of friends staying and fighting, setting up Neighbourhood Watch groups and forming your own Private patrols- reporting all and any wrong-doing to the Police- stands a higher chance of stemming the spread of violence into proud Lancastrian communities.
However, if violent thugs with knives move in, and the Police are not taking seriously the reports of violence- learning how to disarm and restrain men and teenagers with knives (without a knife) in your Private Patrol- by collectively taking up Self Defence classes means that the thugs meet resistance. But there is then the real risk that the thugs find your home(s) and meet out violent reprisals. You could call the Police, and they may arrest the thugs by this stage- and they may then go to prison: In which case, you have successfully got together with friends and neighbours to see off a violent threat to your local community. But if one is forcibly restraining thugs with knives, there is also the risk of being stabbed- or (more likely) of being arrested oneself for hurting the thugs. All of these are potential solutions, with pros and cons that are worth discussing with viewers in Regional TV programming.
Leaving the Area altogether
The option for folk with fewer friends, who are smaller and lack self-defence skills when faced with violent thugs threatening one is- ultimately- to move. It is likely to be the only safe option- and Cumbria is a lot safer than the centre of Manchester or Liverpool. But even Cumbria is not immune to violence and anti-social behaviour, so the Isle of Man or the county of Donegal north-west Ireland is also a possibility. One does not even need a passport to travel to these areas, and both these areas are outside the UK Government’s jurisdiction: Both the Manx Government and the Irish Government take crime more seriously, there’s a Police presence, and violent criminals do get locked up. If you move to Donegal, and can find work, become part of the community, then one can apply for Irish citizenship and- with that- get an Irish passport: This means that one will be able to travel to Europe much more easily (and stay longer) than one travelling from the UK can. Additionally, having an Irish passport means that one will avoid the need to have to get a Visa Waiver (ETIAS) to travel to Europe, as this will be applicable to British citizens from the end of this year (2026).
Again, no broadcaster in North-West England is advising vulnerable people to move to less-violent parts of the UK to escape violence. There is no programming, no reporting, nothing explaining how such folk could keep themselves safe by moving, if this was what they really need.
Vulnerable Folk required by Law to stay in Dangerous Areas
For anyone living in North-West England who is small and vulnerable- and who is on bail for whatever reason (perhaps just posting a nasty comment on Facebook about hooded Muslims threatening an area seems to suffice)- or if one is on Probation- perhaps for posting messages on X that the Government doesn’t like- your options for moving are much more limited and one is especially vulnerable. A condition of one’s Probation may be that one lives at a specific address (possibly where one encounters yobs nearby), and it is 100% certain that one would not be able to leave the United Kingdom. The thing which folk in this situation need to do in the first instance would be to seek legal advice on what to do if they are threatened by thugs, and to beg the Police and Probation service (with some evidence of what one is faced with, if possible)- perhaps in the weekly meeting with the Probation Officer- to allow a move to a safer part of the country.
One’s case in being able to do this would be greatly strengthened if one has supportive friends living in, say, the Lake District or Northumberland- and can provide evidence of yobs threatening one’s family (i.e., video footage, broken windows, injuries). It could be that the Police and Probation service would not allow one to move, in which case one would be in danger. Yes, you can be arrested and sentenced to prison- with a period of Probation following just for trying to protect one’s family from the yobs that the Police almost refuse to find, arrest and charge- but for you, if you were on probation for protecting your property and/ or family from said yobs, the Police would have you arrested and sent to jail for moving to safety away from the gangs of yobs that threaten one’s family!
Talk about Two Tier Justice! This abhorrent situation is coming to a community near you in the next few years if voters cannot get this Labour Government ejected from power in the next few years. A small autistic man of just five feet and six inches tall is now considered by the law to be a graver threat than a gang of four six-feet tall sixteen-year-olds that like menacing their communities. This defies all common-sense, fairness and decency. Neither the BBC, nor ITV.Plc like discussing such matters for fear of being labelled racist, anti-youth, anti-Police, etc,.
There is an increasing Public Health risk for folk of a certain physical disposition, especially who struggle with mild learning disabilities, if they live in the more urbanised southern parts of North-West England. Increasingly that Public Health risk is spreading into Cheshire, and northwards into Lancashire. Their families need to warn their sons/ brothers/ daughters with disabilities that living on their own in a city is soon to become dangerous (if it is not already), and that they should move with them, to the country.
Both BBC North-West Tonight and ITV Granada Reports remain largely- silent on the fact that rising gang and youth violence poses increasing Public Health risks for anyone who is small with a learning disability- let alone to advise that folk might want to consider moving to the country. There is a big problem with these broadcasters’ Manchester-centric views of North-West England: For when large parts of Manchester and Liverpool become fundamentally dangerous cities to live in- and the broadcasters fear to upset or offend their inner-city viewers from the south of the region- they are going to be disinclined to say what needs to be said. That large parts of Manchester or Liverpool will be no safer than Beirut in the next few years- in order that folk living there can make an informed decision to move.
Christianity and the Church as a Solution
Both individuals and their wider communities can turn to Christian principles when faced with threats. This is a viable route for help and advice for folk who are threatened, as Christians are charitable, they have a certain concern about their fellow man (they would not be Christians if they did not)- and they provide practical advice and support for those suffering from abuse, torment and persecution. A good Christian will also introduce folk in trouble to Jesus, who can help troubled and hurting folk find peace, forgiveness and an inner joy that can carry folk through hardship to a better place. Some Christians advocate passive acceptance of the circumstance one might be in, to turn the other cheek, but sound Christian advice (and help) to remove yourself and your family from danger also exist. Above all, local churches provide opportunities to meet and make new friends, friends who are likely to be reliable and to go with you should you need to make trips into a large town: There is strength in numbers, you are less likely to be attacked if you are with someone than alone.
Both the mainstream Regional TV broadcasters in North-West England would baulk at any suggestion of advising their viewers of turning to Christians and/ or becoming a follower of Jesus. The BBC is very wary of saying anything that might upset Muslims or atheists so is unlikely to do it. But folk who are tormented and are fearful can (and do) find great solace in God of whom there is evidence that He does answer prayers. New Christians can find God’s strength helps them cope with much worse situations- like the persecution and torture for their beliefs, as happens in countries like Iran.
Yet whilst both BBC North West Tonight and ITV Granada Reports will baulk at any suggestion that folk need to turn to God for help in times of danger, they should (at the very least) acknowledge and mention that the Christian community is a valuable resource- for those in trouble or who are in danger. Christian families can provide direction to resources, act as advocates in a Court, or if a family is in real danger put that family in touch with a group or charitable organisation in a safer part of the country. Helping, by providing information about groups or churches that can direct vulnerable people towards safety is- or at least should be– an essential part of broadcasters’ corporate social responsibility towards those who watch their programming. There will be an increasing need for both of North West England’s mainstream Regional TV broadcasters to provide folk in danger with direction to sources of help, as well as to provide practical steps for setting up Community or Neighbourhood Watch groups, or for the isolated vulnerable how to leave the area and move to a safer part of Northern Britain without ending up homeless.
There is promise in the Christian faith that if folk follow Jesus and remain faithful, there is a hope of a better tomorrow (i.e., heaven) if they prevail, lean on Jesus and trust Him through tough times. However, that does not mean that folk should remain in increasingly precarious environments: If you and your family are threatened, one’s windows smashed, one’s dog rammed by a “joy-rider”, and one’s son is punched in the stomach and he has his phone smashed up by two charvers; when the Police are called each time and the Police fail to pursue the young thugs (or the Police just give a verbal warning to the thugs -leading to further violent reprisals): If all that is so, the time has come to give a week’s notice at work then pack your belongings into your car- for an eighty mile drive north with your children- to emergency accommodation on the outskirts of Carlisle. Do not wait for your house to sell and risk further harm in the interim- do that from a distance. Both mainstream broadcasters in North-West England should be advising their viewers what to do for their own safety.
Local broadcasters should stop seeing increasingly violent larger towns and cities through rose-tinted spectacles with nostalgia: Manchester, Salford, Warrington, even Preston and Blackpool are NOT the charming, friendly, and bustling places that they once were- parts of these built-up areas are increasingly more like Beirut or (dare I suggest it) Gaza City: Especially on Friday and Saturday nights!
Finding Safety and Refuge: North-West Regional TV Needs to Address Folk’s Real Concerns and foment Northerly links to Safer Areas
Broadcasters should try and foster a sense of pride in viewers in the places in which they live. But they also need to tell viewers the truth, report facts on the ground, and the increasing risk of harm- of whatever form- arises: Local families and communities need to be advised of the best course of action for keeping folk safe. It is (actually) getting harder for Community Groups to patrol and keep their own areas safe, as the Police are liable to arrest folk who apprehend and administer a beating to a yob (or groups of yobs) terrorising their community. In our increasingly Two-Tier Justice System in Britain, the Police are slow to follow up and arrest young hoodlums threatening communities but are quick to jump on anyone taking the law into their own hands (who may have tried the legal route without success)!
That being so, folk living in rough estates in larger towns and cities in the south of North-West England, but now increasingly in larger towns in Cumbria and northern Lancashire (parts of Carlisle, Morecambe and Lancaster have been violent for some years), folk living in these areas need to be advised not to try and stay- and fight back. But to move – preferably further north. Their ability to do so may be constrained by finances, by health, by legal restriction (i.e., conditions of Probation) but as much as they can- folk living in increasingly rough areas should move themselves and their families out of harm’s way. It will be a wrench for those who have friends, who have other family members and memories going back years in somewhere like Manchester or Preston to move. But folk need to be encouraged to look at cold, hard facts- and to act rationally.
Liverpudlians’ Passport to Safety and Freedom
If one lives in and around Liverpool, it is quite likely that one has parents or grandparents who were Irish. According to a recent study about 75% of the Merseyside population have Irish ancestry. In which case, sound advice might be to gather the evidence of your Irish ancestry together, gather your family and your belongings and take the ferry to Dublin- and then travel to somewhere like the county of Donegal in the north-west of Ireland. Once there, apply for Irish citizenship, which you stand a high chance of obtaining. With that you can get an Irish Passport, and then you will not have to obtain an ETIAS Visa Waiver to travel to Europe when this European Visa screening service is bought in later this year. Since Ireland is in the EU you will be able to spend three months in any Schengen country and, if you register with the authorities in the area you are staying in that European country, you could stay for longer. So, with Irish citizenship one could spend several months in the Emerald Isle of Ireland followed by several months in (say) Sweden and enjoy the beautiful scenery, the frozen Northern-Lights-lit landscapes all whilst listening to their unique beautiful folk/ country music from singers like Mia Elfqvist or Louise Andersson Bodin. Then you could return to Ireland. With the will and determination, it is possible to really remove oneself from danger and to go and explore new and beautiful places further north.
Does BBC North-West Tonight or ITV Granada Reports never mention any of this? There’s a million folk living in what has (undoubtedly) become quite a dangerous region within North-West England, whom, because of their ancestry not only have a real chance to escape from harm, but to obtain a Passport that will enable them to circumvent the tougher post-Brexit Visa-Waiver screening processes being bought in for Europe’s Schengen Area. An Irish Passport would facilitate a Liverpudlian’s move to mainland Europe. But for fear of upsetting Liverpudlians, Regional TV broadcasters fear to tell the truth, that their city is not actually safe to live in anymore whilst explaining these tips on how local Scousers fearful for themselves and their families might obtain a safer- and more stimulating- life.
The Great Escape for Lancastrians and Cumbrians
Options to leave the country, assuming more of North-West England will be increasingly unsafe and unpleasant to live in in future years, are much more limited for most folk living in the rest of North-West England. It is still possible to go the Irish route since the Irish Republic is part of the British Common Travel Area, and it is not even necessary to have a passport to travel there. However, if one is required to stay in the UK as part of Probation conditions (perhaps for fighting back against yobs threatening one or one’s family) even that is not an option.
If one has family living in Europe who could care for you, or who need to see you for their own well-being it may be possible, via the Embassy of the country in which your relatives reside, and from the Courts, to obtain travel authorisation to visit that country. If one has a criminal record, one may be rejected for an ETIAS, which would stop one travelling to Europe, but appeal on the basis of special circumstances (especially if it involves family members) means that one stands a good chance of getting a special ETIAS just for the specific country one needs to travel to. This would involve the services of a good solicitor, which may not be cheap- and in the meantime violent thugs may accost one in the street and steal one’s money- the money needed to pay these legal fees and Swedish Embassy fees!
The first priority would need to be that of getting out of the most dangerous situation by moving to a safer part of the UK: If one is on probation but has family living in (say) the Lake District it should be relatively straightforward to obtain permission to move, but if that does not happen appealing to the Police and the Courts- with evidence of the threat against one- should result in a dispensation to move. Evidence to back up one’s claim is crucial.
Once one has moved to the safer part of the North (i.e., The Lakes), it is then possible to work on getting to a point where one can actually leave the UK- assuming that not even the Lake District is really safe by 2032. This would involve completing any term of probation and ensuring that one does not encounter any violent situations where one needs to fight back. Once the Probation is complete, you can apply for a Passport and, if one wishes to travel to Europe, apply for an ETIAS- which one may not get with a criminal record.
There is the possibility of going the Irish route- by moving to Ireland, living there a few years and contributing to the local community. Once one has demonstrated good citizenship and is honest about the reasons for any criminal records one stands a very good chance of getting Irish citizenship- and with that one can apply for (and obtain) an Irish passport. That will then enable one to travel to (and apply to stay) in Europe with much greater ease than if one has just a British Passport.
If one has parents, a wife or children who are citizens of any European Schengen country one can apply for residency and a passport for the relevant European country, though some countries are easier to get into than others. Ireland and Portugal are relatively easy to get into if you have ancestry with these countries, the Netherlands and Germany are much tougher to crack. All of which would mean, all the same, that living in Ireland for a few years to get an Irish passport is not necessary to enable one to easily travel to and stay in Europe.
If one has the Passport of a Schengen country and you are one of (according to the 2021 census) the 4.4% of those living in North West England who are mainland European or Scandinavian by birth you are fortunate in that you can move to mainland Europe or Scandinavia without the difficulties that a born and bred Lancastrian or Cumbrian might have. In which case, why would you continue to live in an increasingly dangerous inner city area where you stand an increasing risk of having your head caved in by yobs when out and about? Again, why are BBC North-West Tonight and ITV Granada Reports not advising you about the changing legal and social climate that is putting you at risk- and advising you to act accordingly?
The mainstream broadcast media in North West England scarcely acknowledge that yes, increasingly large parts of North West England are more dangerous to live in: That’s let alone to offer any solutions for people and families to move away to safer rural parts of the North- and then abroad- if that is what is truly needed for folk to find safety and obtain a better quality of life for them and their families.
For those living in North West England, who are increasingly aware of what is afoot across their Region, they can write a stiff letter to both BBC North West and ITV Granada Reports to say “Oi. Our Region is under threat from what could end up a wave of violent lawlessness! Why are you not reporting on it and advising folk what to do?”. The time to do that is now.
