BBC North West Tonight goes High Definition and covers Whitehaven

1st November 2021

Dear Readers

BBC1 North West Tonight covered Whitehaven this evening- with regards to the proposed new coal-mine there that now looks set to be in doubt after the Prime Minister Boris Johnson ruled it out: It is good that areas of Cumbria north of the transmission area are being covered for the benefit of viewers who live in South Cumbria and northern Lancashire- a North West Regioal News- service should indeed provide news-coverage of all parts of North West England! Flooding at St. Michaels-on-Wyre after almost two-and-a-half inches of rain fell on the Bowland fells of northern Lancashire, which swelled the waters of the River Wyre to the greatest extent since December 2015- also received extensive coverage on this flagship Regional TV News programme for North West England. Also covered was the fact that a man is in court charged with murder after the death of an elderly lady from Morecambe in 2018. It is good for viewers in the northern North West England when the North West Regional TV News provides three items of news- coverage about Cumbria and northern Lancashire!

One would like to state that this is start of a significant long-term improvement in he amount of news-coverage provided that covers those parts of North West England north of Preston on BBC1 North West Tonight. However, we would need to see this degree of coverage of Cumbria and northern Lancashire each night of the week- and an end to week-long periods when viewers are starved of any coverage that gets north of Preston. Until we see that happening this Website will continue the Campaign for better- and more geographic-appropriate – Regional News coverage for communities that are north of Preston!

I live near Alston in north -east Cumbria (and yes, it is in North West England). I have friends who live in the middle part of North West England - near Lancaster (which is where I went to University and used to live until 14 years ago). A big problem is that the Regional Television Bulletins for the North West covers the southern third of the Region about 90%,(plus a part of Derbyshire which is NOT the North West of England), covers the middle third of North West England poorly and covers the northern third of North West England not at all! People living in the westernmost part of North West England (around St. Bees Head) have local BBC news on their televisions which is 90% about North East England!!

  1. Hi would you mind letting me know which hosting company you’re utilizing?

I’ve loaded your blog in 3 different internet browsers and I
must say this blog loads a lot quicker then most.

Can you suggest a good hosting provider at a reasonable price?
    Thank you, I appreciate it!

  2. I don’t even know how I ended up here, but I thought this post was good.
I don’t know who you are but certainly you are going to a famous blogger if you are not already 😉 Cheers!
